The following statement should be attributed to Markham Erickson, Executive Director of the Open Internet Coalition:

“Final publication of the FCC’s open Internet rules is an important chapter in the effort to protect openness for consumers and innovators on the internet.

“These rules will codify access to lawful applications, services and content over the wireline Internet, and provide a useful degree of protection for users of the wireless net. Additionally, the transparency provisions of the rule will shine a bright light on any efforts by network operators to block or degrade content. We will monitor compliance and highlight violations of the rule when appropriate.

“Operators have shown thus far that these rules are consistent with providing a high level of service to consumers and businesses, and we are confident that continued compliance can and will take place at no real cost to the telecommunications industry. But a robust regime of monitoring and enforcement by the FCC will be necessary to ensure compliance over the long term.

“The OIC will remain involved to ensure the FCC fulfills its responsibility to protect consumers’ ability to fully access and enjoy the benefits of the open Internet.“
